Diffusion in Non-ideal Liquid Mixtures

چکیده
An equation proposed recently (Haase and Jansen, 1980) relates to the dependence on composition and temperature of the diffusion coefficient D and of the kinematic diffusion coefficient D* in a binary nonelectrolyte solution. This equation is now applied to our own measurements of the activity coefficients and of the diffusion coefficient in the non-ideal liquid system carbon tetrachloride + acetone at 20 °C and 40 °C over the entire range of compositions. (For 0 °C only values of D are available.) It turns out that the function D (.v), where .v denotes the mole fraction of one of the components, exhibits a minimum at each temperature, while D* (x) nearly represents a straight line. We establish a correlation between the deviations f rom Raoult 's Law and the sign of the difference D — D*.

By proposing a predictive method with no adjustable parameter and by using infinite dilution activity coefficients of components in binary mixtures obtained from UNIFAC model, the binary interaction parameters (k12) in van der Waals mixing rule (vdWMR) and Orbey-Sandler mixing rule (OSMR) have been evaluated. The predicted binary interaction parameters are used in Peng-Robinson-S...
متن کاملMutual diffusion of binary liquid mixtures containing methanol, ethanol, acetone, benzene, cyclohexane, toluene, and carbon tetrachloride.
Mutual diffusion coefficients of all 20 binary liquid mixtures that can be formed out of methanol, ethanol, acetone, benzene, cyclohexane, toluene, and carbon tetrachloride without a miscibility gap are studied at ambient conditions of temperature and pressure in the entire composition range. The considered mixtures show a varying mixing behavior from almost ideal to strongly non-ideal. Predict...

The interaction between an ionic liquid (1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide or IL) and cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)) in aqueous solution has been investigated at various mole fractions and temperature 30 ˚C using experimental and theoretical methods. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of pure components and their binary mixtures, mixed micellar compositi...
متن کاملDiffusion of Charged Species in Liquids
In this study the laws of mechanics for multi-component systems are used to develop a theory for the diffusion of ions in the presence of an electrostatic field. The analysis begins with the governing equation for the species velocity and it leads to the governing equation for the species diffusion velocity. Simplification of this latter result provides a momentum equation containing three domi...

We develop a low Mach number formulation of the hydrodynamic equations describing transport of mass and momentum in a multispecies mixture of incompressible miscible liquids at specified temperature and pressure that generalizes our prior work on ideal mixtures of ideal gases [K. In this formulation we combine and extend a number of existing descriptions of multispecies transport available in t...
